Replace Damaged Roof Shingles

My Handy Neighbour is proud to offer service to help with your damaged roof shingles.

To change out asphalt shingles we will need access to your roof and assess the level of damage.  If the shingles are brittle and falling off you may have to consider a full roof replacement.

If the sheet plywood under the shingles and roofing paper is damp but not rotten we will replace the shingles and access it from the underside.

How My Handy Neighbour Replaces Damaged Roof Shingles

• We loosen the shingles with a small flat crow bar to pull apart the adhesive tabs and roofing nails

  1. We remove at least five tabs in the second row above the damaged "3-tab" shingle

  2. We then pull up enough shingles to reveal the nails of all the damaged shingles that need removed below

• We make sure to find the appropriate shingle from your local hardware store

  • If we can’t find the appropriate shingle, we can match it with high end sealant and waterproof product

• Before installing any new shingles, we review the asphalt paper and cover over any damaged areas with a Peel and stick patch

  • If it’s a low slope roof, we use a semi-permeable peel and stick membrane

• We secure the loose shingles with roofing nails and use asphalt caulking from your local hardware store to secure the bottom of the shingles in place when nails can’t be reached

  • If we see any cracks or protruding nails on the surface of the shingles, we make sure to use asphalt caulking to cover over the damaged area

• This roof shingle patch or replacement can take up to 5 hour depending on the condition of your roofing plywood and the weather
